Tim Carter

Tim grew up in the chicagoland area and graduated from Depaul University Magna cum Laude. After college, Tim attended John Marshall Law School and upon graduation, was hired as an Assistant State’s Attorney in Cook County.

During the course of his career as a prosecutor, Tim successfully tried hundreds of bench and jury trials from traffic related offences to first degree murder. As a prosecutor, Tim was certified as lead counsel by the Illinois Supreme Court to litigate capital cases.

Tim was promoted to First Chair in the Felony Trial Division at 26th and California in 2006, and was responsible for overseeing other prosecutors as well as handling the most complex and violent cases. During his sixteen year career as a prosecutor, Tim developed into the seasoned trial attorney that he is today. Tim is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association, the Chicago Bar Association, and the Cook County Bar Association. Tim also serves as a moot court judge for John Marshall Law School and mentors young lawyers.

JesseOpdycke

Jesse Opdycke

Jesse was born and raised in Evanston Illinois, attending Evanston Township High School. After high school, Jesse enrolled at Miami University (OH) playing four years Division I soccer while majoring in history.

After college, Jesse was accepted to law school at the University of New Hampshire in Concord New Hampshire. During law school, Jesse interned with the Attorney General as well as the local county prosecutor.

After law school and passing the Illinois bar examination, Jesse was hired as an Assistant State’s Attorney in Cook County. After prosecuting Dui’s and other traffic offenses, Jesse was promoted to the first municipal misdemeanor unit. In 2007 Jesse worked his way up to preliminary hearings, Grand Jury and the felony review unit. In 2009, Jesse advanced to the felony trial division at 26th and California.

After more than 25 felony juries, Jesse became a second chair continuing his career as a prosecutor. During the years he spent in the felony trial division, Jesse continued to develop his trial skills and had an opportunity to work alongside fellow prosecutor and first chair Tim Carter. The rest, as they say is history and Tim and Jesse formed Carter & Opdycke in the spring of 2012.
